Polusa (Policlinico Lucense SA) – This is situated on a hill to the south east of Lugo centre, across the river Mino. It is about a 5-10 minute drive from the hotel Pazo.

There are good facilities, as you would expect, including a cafeteria and plentiful parking.

The 24 hour pharmacy. Farmacia Forjan is located on Avenida de Ramon Ferreiro, about 200 yards outside the Roman wall to the south. It is relatively easy to park outside, especially at night!

For x-rays and scans, you may be recommended to go to the Gabinete Radiologico situated at Rua Doctor Fleming, 3, ground floor. Service is generally very quick. No appointment required.

Now for the funkiest (and professional and exacting) dentist we have met!

You will find her at Clinica Dental Doctora Maria Nunez Otero – her website is here.

The address is Rua Mondonedo, 31, ground floor, tel: 982 809 994.

A few tips if you are here for dental treatment

  • Remember that you are going for a procedure and that it is likely you will need to stay for recuperation, check ups etc etc. So don’t plan on a day trip unless you have cleared it with your medical team!
  • Don’t pick a hotel a long way from Polusa. You will value convenience and proximity
  • Do take a little time to orientate yourself before the procedure. You will have other things on your mind afterwards.
  • Don’t forget you won’t be able to eat hard food for a while and may not want to go out for a day or two. Perhaps stock up on avocados, bananas, soft cheese (see the cheese shop under sleep, eat, shop), cartons of milk or gazpacho etc.
  • Walking round the wall in the sun is good for wellbeing and vitamin D!
  • Be fexible with your availability. Polusa is very busy, dealing with emergencies as well as business as usual. You may be called on at short notice for a check up.
  • Maybe take bathing things as you may wish to visit the Balneario (spa baths) which are on the way to Polusa from Hotel Pazo in the Hotel Balneario.
  • If you use an electric toothbrush, bring a very soft manual toothbrush for use after the procedure.
